WARM-UP TECHNIQUES
As we pass through the halls, we hear all sorts of interesting sounds coming from the Band, Orchestra, and Choir rooms at the very beginning of class. We can't exactly call it music, so what are those student-musicians doing?
If we passed by the football field or track, what would we see those athletes doing before the game or meet begins? We'd see them stretching or doing calisthenics, right? Would you say what they are doing is important? Why? As an actor, you also must prepare yourself for the activities required of you during performance. As a violinist uses a violin as her instrument, an actor must use his body, voice, and mind as an instrument. And like the oboist performing scales before a concert, or the pitcher throwing fastballs in the bullpen, you must warm up before performing. |
The major parts of our selves that we must warm up before performance or rehearsal are:
1) BODY 2) VOICE 3) MIND Of course, those parts can be divided even further. Click on the links above to learn more! Below is a Warm-Up Wheel that will help you keep up with and categorize the various warm-up games and activities we will learn.
